For April Harris-Jenkins, the most important work she does is getting to know the scholars she works with so she can support them in achieving their goals. She accepted this position in 2022 because she wanted to be in the classroom helping scholars and because she enjoys learning new things.
Prior to her current position, Ms. Harris-Jenkins worked in IDEA’s front office for a year, supporting the enrollment team as well as providing assistance and support to staff and faculty as needed. She remains dedicated to that work, occasionally helping out in the supply room and making sure there is enough coffee for everyone.
What keeps her at IDEA is her enjoyment of being around young people and the team spirit among IDEA’s staff and faculty. Ms. Harris-Jenkins is proud to work at a school that gives all scholars the opportunity to apply and be accepted to college.
In her spare time, she likes to do arts and crafts, especially making cards. She also likes to get outside and enjoy nature, particularly flowers and plants.
Her inspiration comes from quotes that ask that we be the best we can be, including: Do unto others as they should do to you. Do your best in all things. Be the best you can be. Don't be afraid to learn something new. You are never too old to learn something new.
